"I remember spending days poring over every independent release in what we used to call a “record store” waiting to discover that crazy, rough, raw little gem that no one had ever heard. Now, of course, there's MySpace, etc., though, really, where's the dedication in that? Yet I digress before I even get to the point, which is that Lucky Jesus, who have self-released their debut CD, is one of those who-the-hell-has-ever-heard-of-them kind of bands thrilling to discover on your own. This queercore foursome has a deep love of punky hooks that stretch back from the Undertones all the way through to their San Francisco brethren/sistren Imperial Teen. And they're less insular than—not to be disrespectful, I love them—Pansy Division. It could also be that I love male-female verse-chorus sharing and enjoy same-sex love tunes that are as breezy and insignificant as their straight counterparts except they're delivered with more heart than attitude. And I wish them a licensing deal with some up-and-coming teen romp director to feature the perfect “John Hughes” in the next big tweener film that gets major distribution."
